STAGE 5 – 28KM

Ampondrafeta beach to Antafiamalama beach

One day before the last day of the ultramarathon, we are 20km away from Diego Suarez. For this stage 5, you will run on the coastal track of Amber cape. The start line is directly on the beach, where you slept last night! After the rocky barrier, you will discover a paradise creek nicknamed “Bakao Beach”. Then you will follow the 4x4 dirt road along the coast. You will go one more time out of the beaten tracks for a great run inside the mangroves. Your last real effort for this ultramarathon will end in Antafiamalama bay. Camp is uphill, you will enjoy a beautiful view on the light-blue waters.

  • Floor: Laterite (60%), soft sand (40%)
  • Obstacles: Mangrove might be muddy (tides)
  • Highlights:
    • Bakao Beach (km 2)
    • Ambodivaibe fishermen village, with a huge Banyan tree shadowing the checkpoint (km 12)
    • Crossing the tropical dry forest (km 16 to 22)
    • The mangroves (km 22 to 24)
  • Afternoon: For this last day, you will enjoy a relative comfort with permanent buildings (Showers, refectory). After 5 days in the bush, it will be a good transition before going back to “normal comfort” tomorrow! We will take the group pictures with all the runners and the staff. You can also swim and enjoy your last sunset.
